12 checks before sending paid traffic to Shopify
PRACTICAL GUIDE · E-COMMERCE
More traffic does not remove friction from a store. Before increasing your advertising budget, review the path a new visitor needs to take and the evidence you will use to decide what works.
Make the offer understandable
- Explain who the product is for. The opening message should connect a customer need with a specific benefit, without unsupported claims.
- Check the product information. Review dimensions, variants, compatibility, usage limits and what is actually included.
- Show the product clearly. Use relevant images with useful alternative text. Avoid decorative files that overwhelm the page.
- Make costs and conditions findable. Check where customers can learn about delivery, taxes and applicable return conditions. Keep these consistent with your actual policies.
Walk through the buying journey
- Use a real phone. Check text size, menu controls, variant selection, buttons and horizontal scrolling.
- Try the navigation and search. Can a first-time visitor reach the right product without knowing your internal category names?
- Review the cart. Verify quantities, selected variants and the next step. Any checkout test or payment must be authorized.
- Test important links and forms. Confirm the destination and the success or error message; agree on test submissions before sending them.
Prepare measurement and operations
- Define your measurement question. Decide which event and reporting period will answer it. Shopify’s supported GA4 integration can automatically track certain e-commerce events; verify your own configuration instead of adding duplicate tracking.
- Check tracking responsibly. Review consent behavior, event quality and the possibility of duplicate events. Expect differences between analytics and order reports.
- Confirm operational readiness. Check stock, delivery promises, contact details and who will respond to incoming questions.
- Choose a small test. Document the starting point, budget, duration and success criterion before changing several things at once.
Turn findings into priorities
Classify each issue as blocking, important or optional. Record the affected page, evidence, owner and next action. Fix obstacles to understanding and purchasing before polishing secondary details.
This checklist is a starting point, not a certification or a guarantee of advertising performance.
